Flossing: How To Do It Right


 Flossing is an essential part of maintaining good oral hygiene, as it helps remove plaque and food particles from between teeth and along the gumline where toothbrushes can't reach effectively. Here's how to floss correctly:

Choose the Right Type of Floss: 

There are various types of dental floss available, including waxed, unwaxed, flavored, and dental tape. Choose the type that you find most comfortable to use.

Use Enough Floss: 

Break off about 18 to 24 inches of dental floss. Wind most of the floss around your middle fingers, leaving about 1 to 2 inches of floss to work with.

Hold the Floss Correctly: 

Hold the floss between your thumbs and index fingers, leaving about 1 to 2 inches of floss to slide between your teeth.

Slide the Floss Between Teeth:

 Gently guide the floss between two teeth, using a gentle back-and-forth motion to ease it between the tight spaces. Be careful not to snap the floss into the gums, as this can cause injury.

Curve Around Each Tooth:

 Once the floss is between the teeth, curve it into a C-shape around one tooth, making sure it reaches below the gumline. Gently glide the floss up and down the side of the tooth to remove plaque and debris.

Move to the Adjacent Tooth:

Rinse and Dispose: 

After flossing between all teeth, rinse your mouth thoroughly with water to remove loosened plaque and debris. Dispose of the used floss properly.
Floss Daily: Floss at least once a day, preferably before bedtime, to remove plaque and debris that accumulate throughout the day.
